Chronic illness is no fun. If you're here, you already know that.

I’m Julia, and I've been living with chronic illness for more than a decade. My doctors are fantastic, my husband is beyond supportive, my friends are helpful and delightful, and it is still a struggle to get through every single day. This site is here to share the rants, resources, reviews, and ruminations I've created in my time as an angry invalid.

Voting With Disabilities

Voting With Disabilities

Big election coming up here in the United States! Just wanted to share some of the information that’s out there specifically for people voting with disabilities:

The United States Election Assistance Commission has an overview of legislation and resources for voters with disabilities;

The Arc has a very comprehensive guide for voters with disabilities, focusing on voters with intellectual and cognitive disabilities;

Nonprofit VOTE has a list of resources in each US state for voters with disabilities; and

The American Association of People with Disabilities’ REV UP project connects with a number of advocacy initiatives for voters with disabilities.

When it comes to specific issues of interest to people living with disabilities, RespectAbility has surveyed candidates and compiled their answers.

Voting is not a privilege; it’s a right. If you need help with polling place access, mailing ballots, or any other issue related to exercising your voting rights while living with disabilities, don’t hesitate to reach out to local elected officials, local party organizations, or any of the groups listed above. Another place to find help is Election Protection/866OurVote; they have a list of voter resources by state, as well as a national telephone hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683).
